In America today more than ever, fear and ignorance fuel violent and exclusionary politics across the country. The good news is that many Buddhist groups are working for dialogue and direct action. As American Buddhist women, our aspirations and responsibilities towards ourselves, our sanghas and our communities are, according to the dharma, all interlinked.

In accordance with the mission of Sakyadhita USA: To establish an inclusive alliance of Buddhist women in the U.S.A. —  This conference will bring together lay and monastic Buddhists from all traditions and backgrounds. Toward the goal of fostering equity in our sanghas and communities, this conference aims to open dialogue and linkages among individuals and groups, but also to launch action. What are the next steps for us as American Buddhist Women? At the close of the  conference, participants will be invited to voice our personal vows and our action plans.

Our conference theme is purposely broad and may encompass many topics and how dharma sanghas are addressing them; for example:

LGBT issues

Mistreatment/misunderstanding of the mentally ill

Violence and stereotyping in mass media

Backlash against women’s rights/reproductive rights

Immigration and refugees

Living in a time of fear

And others.

Please plan now to join us in this important dialogue! More details will soon be available.
